About Zambia
Information
Zambia, officially the Republic of Zambia, is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. It is bordered by eight countries: Tanzania to the northeast, Malawi to the east, Mozambique to the southeast, Zimbabwe to the south, Botswana and Namibia to the southwest, Angola to the northwest, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the north.
The capital city of Zambia is Lusaka, which is also the largest city in the country. The second-largest city is Kitwe, located in the Copperbelt region. Zambia has a population of approximately 19 million people. The country’s official language is English, although many local languages are widely spoken, including Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, and Lozi.
Zambia has a tropical climate, characterised by a rainy season from November to April and a dry season from May to October. The northern parts of the country tend to be cooler and more humid, while the southern areas are drier and warmer. The country’s diverse landscapes include forests, wetlands, and savannahs, with beautiful national parks and game reserves.
Zambia is famous for its rich wildlife and stunning natural attractions. The country is home to some of Africa’s most famous national parks, such as South Luangwa National Park, known for its walking safaris, and Lower Zambezi National Park, which offers amazing opportunities for canoeing and game viewing. Zambia shares the mighty Victoria Falls with Zimbabwe, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, located on the Zambezi River. Adventurers can enjoy a variety of activities in Zambia, such as game drives, boat cruises, fishing, and cultural tours. The country offers a mix of vibrant cities and peaceful rural areas, with a focus on eco-tourism and sustainable development. In addition to wildlife, visitors can explore the Copperbelt region, known for its mining industry, or visit the city of Livingstone, a popular gateway to Victoria Falls.
Local transportation in Zambia includes taxis, buses, and domestic flights, with many visitors combining their trips to Zambia with visits to neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe, Botswana, and Tanzania.
Local Currency
The official currency of Zambia is the Zambian kwacha (ZMW). The US Dollar is also widely accepted, especially in tourist areas. Visitors are advised to carry both Zambian kwacha and US Dollars to ensure smooth transactions, as some establishments may only accept one or the other.
