We know that you want the best value for money when travelling in Africa. Important factors to consider when booking your fastjet flight include whether you are travelling for business or pleasure, flying during off-peak season, if you will be booking a return flight at the same time and the destination you are travelling to. The most important factor, however, when determining the end amount you will pay is booking your ticket at the right time. And even seasoned travellers can get it wrong. Here’re some tips and advice to help you book your fastjet flight at the right time for the right price.
Timing is everything
Fastjet encourages Guests to book their flights early in order to get the best deals. This is reinforced by industry data, which states that the cheapest time to book a domestic flight in Africa is one to two months prior to departure. The reason being is to encourage more people to book travel. If the aircraft still has seats available one to three days prior to departure, airlines do at times drop their flight prices.
The downside of waiting this long, of course, is that flights could be sold out completely, so if your travel plans aren’t flexible, a four- to eight-week advance booking is a safer option and you’ll still enjoy fare savings.
With fastjet you’re given the option to book the Achiever fare. Although priced slightly higher than the BigSaver fare, it does include one free checked bag and one free date, time or route change – perfect for travellers needing flexibility.
For international flights, it is best to book a couple of months in advance as booking three to four weeks before the departure date is the most expensive time. Last minute bookings tend to be more expensive because economy class travellers have already booked the lowest fares. This leaves the flexible fare classes, which cost more, available.
On international flights, fastjet operate E145 aircraft which seat 50 Guests. These seats do fill up quickly due to the size of the aircraft. So if you are travelling from South Africa to Zimbabwe, or Zimbabwe to Tanzania and through Mozambique, it is best to book early.
More reasons to fly fastjet
As a low-cost airline fastjet gives you the flexibility to choose affordable pay-as-you-travel extras. If you are happy to be seated anywhere on the plane, then you don’t pay for your seat. This all saves you money, and makes travelling with fastjet the easy choice.
We also offer you the option to pay now using credit or debit card, or to pay later (up to 72 hours later depending on the departure date of your flight). This is perfect for travellers who want to pay for their fastjet flight with cash at an NMB Branch or fastjet Shop, or using mobile money and Pesapal. It’s about making travel in Africa easy and convenient.
