Tuku stuns fastjet Guests with first ever on-board concert

By Nicolina Simoes

On Friday, 9 March 2018, Guests on board fastjet flight FN8003 bound for Victoria Falls were delightfully surprised when legendary musician Oliver Mtukudzi began to serenade them 30 000 feet in the sky. The carefully orchestrated on-board concert was a first for fastjet Zimbabwe and Mtukudzi.

With only his guitar, Tuku ambled down the aisle singing to a stunned audience.

Initially, many couldn’t believe what they were seeing and hearing. “I had no idea what was happening,” said an American tourist. “As soon as I figured it out, I cheered on with excitement; completely thrilled by the privilege of being able to witness this type of concert, as well as a Zimbabwean musician in action. [It] was so cool! This is something special I get to take back home with me forever.”

But Tuku did more than just sing. He dazzled and charmed Guests, stopping to speak to women, children and men in between songs.

A local Zimbabwean said, “Tuku is wonderful, the man embodies Zimbabwe! I had never met [him] in person. It was really amazing to see him up close and personal in his shining moment.”

But this was not the only surprise for Guests. To add to this special moment, fastjet handed out free snacks and refreshments. It really was the perfect way to begin an adventurous weekend in the magnificent Victoria Falls.

Cabin crew noted that on landing Guests were quick to grab phones to share the exciting news with friends and family. The atmosphere was electric.

Fastjet is proud to have teamed with the talented Tuku once again. We thank all involved for making this concert a resounding success.
