Sporting rifles

Fastjet permits the carriage of Rifles used for sporting purposes. This is subject to certain conditions which you must adhere to, to ensure that we can transport your rifle securely and in accordance with all the requirements.

Rifles are carried as additional “checked baggage” items, subject to space and operational requirements. There is a fee for the carriage of rifles. Click here for more details on Fees. Fees can be paid for online or via our Call Centre. You will receive an email confirmation of the fee payment.

You can check in one (1) rifle if you are 18 years of age or older.

The rifle must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided lockable case and transported as checked baggage only. Magazines and ammunition clips, must be empty, must be securely packed in checked baggage or included within a hard-sided case containing the unloaded firearm. You can carry a maximum of 5kg of ammunition packed separately, from the rifle, in your checked baggage. Ammunition may not be placed loosely in checked baggage.

Only when all formalities have been completed, will you be allowed to check in the Rifle and be given the boarding card for your flight. Your rifle will be returned to you at the baggage collection point. A member of our ground staff will hand over the case.

When you arrive at the airport you must inform the check-in agent that you are transporting a rifle. The check-in agent will then liaise with security staff who will be required to inspect and check your rifle.

You will need to show the relevant documentation to prove you own the rifle or that you have been authorised to carry the rifle. The Security/Policy at the airport reserve the right to refuse the carriage of the rifle should the documentation not be in order.
