Known as the pearl of the Indian Ocean it’s easy to see why the vibrant city of Maputo is one of the most popular destinations in Mozambique. As you can imagine, there is much to do.

Activities and accommodation

Take a stroll through the beautiful Botanical Gardens, visit the many arts and craft markets as well as museums, buy your catch of the day at the bustling fish market, immerse yourself in local culture or book a city tour. And cap off your night dancing up a storm in any of the nightclubs.

What about spoiling yourself with an overnight excursion to Inhaca Island, or book a boat trip to Macaneta beach. Maputo Elephant Reserve also boasts excellent game viewing and should be a must-see for all visitors.

It’s also not hard finding accommodation. If you are willing to spend a little, there are plenty 3- to 5-star rated hotels and resorts located on the beachfront, offering fine-dining and world-class experiences. If you prefer to rough it, there are backpackers. And if you’d like something homey, book into a BnB.

Maputo International Airport

Not only is Maputo International Airport the largest airport in the country, but it is also the main gateway into Mozambique. To deliver a world-class experience, the airport is currently being upgraded.
