Although we do our best to accommodate our Customers' needs, safety does come first. With this in mind, everything you need to know about what weapons will be accepted and what documentation is needed to guarantee carriage can be found below.

Sporting rifles

Fastjet permits the carriage of rifles used for sporting purposes subject to prescribed conditions. To ensure that we can transport your rifle securely and in accordance with all the requirements, please refer to our Sporting Rifles page for more details.

Only Customers 18 years and older may check-in a rifle.

Weapons and ammunition

Weapons such as antique firearms, swords, knives and similar items may, at our reasonable discretion, be accepted as checked baggage in accordance with our regulations but are not allowed into the aircraft cabin.

  • Fastjet does not accept carriage of any weapons except handguns, sporting rifles and ammunition suited to these weapons, and which adhere to the conditions listed below.

  • Ammunition can only be carried in your checked baggage and may not exceed 5 kg per passenger travelling.

  • The transportation of ammunition alone is not permitted.

  • Failure to comply with these terms may result in you being denied boarding and forfeiture of your booking with no refund to you.

Only Customers 18 years and older may check-in a rifle.

Procedures to be followed

If you wish to travel with a handgun or a sporting rifle and/or ammunition, you need to follow the below procedure.

  1. Sporting rifles: Add your sporting rifle as an additional item to your booking when making a new flight booking or to an existing booking through Manage My Booking. You can also add this through the Call Centre, fastjet shops or at the airport ticket office prior to check-in. You will be charged a separate baggage fee for adding a sporting rifle as this is not interchangeable with your baggage allowance.
Handguns: You may carry your licenced handgun at no additional charge subject to our Terms and Conditions.
  2. Ensure the safety catch is on and that the handgun(s) is securely packaged in a gun case.

  3. Produce valid documentation and licences which prove your ownership and legal authority for the possession of the handgun(s) and ammunition.

  4. Fill in the Firearm Notification form.

  5. Security will assess the weapon, before placing it in the gun box in the aircraft hold.

  6. You will then be given a receipt that you will need to produce at your destination in order to claim the handgun from the fastjet staff or handling agents.

  7. Please note that the carriage of handgun(s) and/or ammunition is at the sole discretion of fastjet. Should you be found to be carrying a handgun in your checked baggage, the weapon will be confiscated.

Not allowed

Fastjet does not allow the transportation of automatic weapons, ammunitions (including blank cartridges), pistol caps, fireworks, flares, pyrotechnics, smoke canisters and crackers. There are, however, exceptions to this rule. Contact the fastjet Call Centre for more information or read on.
