Ask Your Cabin Crew speaks to Rutendo Huni about her favourite destinations on the fastjet network, what to do, what to see and her favourite eating places.
“Johannesburg was my first regional flight after I got my cabin crew license. Since then, I have fallen in love with the City of Gold” Rutendo.

What To Do
The evening flights in or out of Johannesburg are a surreal experience for everyone on the flight. The lights shine bright representing a buzzing metropolis full of promise.
Johannesburg is one of Africa’s must-visit cities. The hub for business, lifestyle and everything in between. On my flights to Johannesburg, I am always fascinated with the different kinds of passengers that we fly on fastjet. You can see the business travellers, leisure seekers, university students and the shopping spree moms. This diverse collection of passengers speaks to fastjet being for everyone.
In Johannesburg, one is spoilt for choice. There is just a lot to do. When it comes to shopping, Johannesburg is the place to be. The city hosts some of Africa’s leading shopping malls from Sandton to Eastgate Mall. My personal favourite is Rosebank Mall with its mixed ambience of business, leisure and retail.
The nightlife backed by a strong music scene delivers memorable nights out. Johannesburg has some of the best nightclubs in Africa, but you must carefully select which ones to visit that suit your vibe.
What To Eat
The city has an impressive dining experience from global fast-food outlets to boutique restaurants offering unique menus. I have been told about the Spatlo or Kota and had never tried it. A few months back I tried it and loved it. The kota is made from a hollowed-out quarter loaf of bread filled with mince, polony, Russian sausage, potatoes and some sauce. This I recommend on an empty stomach.
Johannesburg’s food scene has a wide variety on offer. Whatever you have in mind you will find it. Food outlets and restaurants are near wherever you are. You don’t have to go across town to your favourite restaurant. Maboneng Precinct is a popular choice for many people, especially over the weekend.
What To Wear
Johannesburg can be extremely cold. I recommend you pack some warm clothing for your trip to the City of Gold.
