What To Do

Known as the City of Kings and Queens, Bulawayo is a vast cultural city celebrating diversity daily. Whenever my passengers ask me what to expect and do in Bulawayo, I recommend my favourite place. “Always make time to visit The Matopos National Park, where you can see the beauty of nature steeped in history”.

Other activities in Bulawayo include visiting the Railway Museum, driving around the historical townships and a trip to Barbourfields Stadium, the home of Highlanders Football Club.  Bulawayo is big on social and lifestyle events, as the style capital of Zimbabwe, these events are a perfect way to enjoy the weekend surrounded by vibrant music and art.

What To Eat

Most street corners around town are littered with restaurants. The food culture in Bulawayo is transforming delivering a blend of traditional and modern dishes. My favourite meal is steak and potato wedges with a variety of local vegetables or a salad. Bulawayo has arguably the best beef in the world and each steak dish is a succulent masterpiece that melts in your mouth with flavourful tones.

I also recommend a traditional brew of opaque beer that is common in the townships and restaurants across the city. Locally called umqombothi or Amasese, this is a bitter yet tasty beverage that has been enjoyed in Bulawayo for generations. Another of my comfort foods is inkobe which is prepared by boiling maize and round and ground nuts. Mixed with mild seasoning, inkobe is best enjoyed with a cup of tea.

What To Wear

Bulawayo is known for a sudden weather change. It can be sunny and hot then change at a moment’s notice to a cool chilly breeze. Always bring warm clothing and anything comfortable.
