On arrival in Lusaka, the fastjet Zimbabwe cabin crew made an announcement that took me down memory lane. She said, “This October, fastjet Zimbabwe is celebrating a decade of flying. This milestone was made possible by your support, trust and loyalty to us”.


That was a personal message; I felt like she was talking directly to me. My first fastjet flight was back in 2016, from Harare to Johannesburg. Since then, I have flown fastjet to Bulawayo and Victoria Falls. In 10 years, my travels have made me familiar with the fastjet flights to the point of always booking my usual seat number 3C and knowing most of the cabin crew members by name.


Before we disembarked, I noticed the fastjet snack box that I had earlier packed away in the seat pocket carried a refreshed design. Each side of the snack box had an expertly designed fastjet 10 years of flying logo. It’s amazing how time flies, I thought to myself. It seems like yesterday when I was on my first flight, and 10 years later, here we are flying to Lusaka.


My thoughts continue to wander, trying to comprehend how fastjet flights have contributed to the Zimbabwean economy. How fastjet flights have changed the travel culture in Zimbabwe from buses to flying on fastjet. While I was still thinking about this and appreciating the airline’s contribution, the cabin crew made another announcement informing us that we may disembark.


Making my way out of the aircraft with my snackbox in hand, she said, “Always a pleasure having you onboard Mr Gunda, enjoy your stay in Lusaka”, I said, “thank you and made my way towards the terminal building”. Waiting for our bags, one of the four colleagues that I had travelled with said, “that is impressive, fastjet Zimbabwe celebrating 10 years of flying.” We all agreed that it was a milestone worth celebrating.


As the cabin crew, announced onboard, “this milestone was made possible by your support”, we will continue to support and fly on fastjet.
